Spiridonov, V.A.. |
During the Rumphius Biohistorical Expedition (RBE) to Ambon, 33 species of swimming crabs were collected in the littoral and upper sublittoral zone by hand on tidal flats, using SCUBA, and using a Holthuis dredge. Lissocarcinus arkati, L. laevis, Charybdis (C.) hellerii, C. (C.) orientalis, C. (C.) variegata, Portunus hastatoides, P. iranjae, P. longispinosus, P. stephensoni, T. chaptalii, T. cooperi, T. stephensoni are recorded at Ambon and in the Moluccas for the first time. The Portunus tenuipes complex is partly revised and P. rugosus sensu Stephenson (1961) is considered a synonym of P. tenuipes De Haan, 1835. A new species, P. pseudotenuipes occurring at Ambon, in the Philippines and off South-East Asia is described. The Ambon fauna includes 55... |

A new rhynchocinetid shrimp, Rhynchocinetes holthuisi, is described and illustrated on the basis of five males, one female and three ovigerous females from the Gulf of Aqaba, northern Red Sea. This species is readily distinguished from four closely related species with arthrobranchs on the third maxilliped and the anterior two pereiopods in combination of the length of the stylocerite, the forms of the antennal basicerite and the endopod of male first pleopod, and meral and dactylar spinulation of the ambulatory pereiopods. It is considered to be an endemic species in the northern Red Sea. |

Twenty-two species of the genus Munidopsis from the Atlantic Ocean are studied. Five new species are described (M. anemia, M. exuta, M. hirtella, M. laurentae and M. truculenta), and diagnoses and illustrations of some relatively rare species (M. acuminata, M. bairdii, M. livida, M. parfaiti and M. thieli) are provided. None of the species discussed here is restricted to a particular habitat, including species collected from hydrothermal vent (M. acutispina, M. exuta) and cold seep areas (M. acutispina, M. geyeri, M. hirtella, M. livida, M. marionis). The new records of some species greatly extend the previously known distribution range of the species (i.e., M. abyssicola, M. aries, M. bairdii, M. geyeri, M. livida, M. parfaiti, M. thieli). Finally, some... |

A synopsis of the family Callianassidae is presented. Defenitions are given of the subfamilies and genera. Keys to the sufamilies, genera, as well as seperate keys to the species occurring in certain biogeographical areas are provided. At least the synonymy, type-locality, and distribution of the species are listed. The following new taxa are described: Calliapaguropinae subfamily nov., Podocallichirus genus nov., Callianassa whitei spec. nov., Callianassa gruneri spec. nov., Callianassa ngochoae spec. nov., Neocallichirus kempi spec. nov. and Calliax doerjesti spec. nov. |

A taxonomic review of the two genera of the family Alvinocarididae (Decapoda: Caridea), Rimicaris Williams and Rona, 1986 and Chorocaris Martin and Hessler 1990, is presented based on study of type materials and/or supplemental material from recent collections. Two species of Rimicaris, R. exoculata Williams and Rona 1986 and R. kairei Watabe and Hashimoto 2002, and three species of Chorocaris, C. chacei Williams and Rona 1986, C. vandoverae Martin and Hessler 1990, and C. paulexa Martin and Shank 2005, are recognized. All species are exclusively associated with deep-water hydrothermal community. Close relationship between the two genera is confirmed by morphological characters, but the monophyly of Chorocaris is not corroborated. An examination of a good... |

Species of the genus Pontonia Latreille, 1829, are distributed in tropical and subtropical waters around the world, living in association with either molluscan or ascidian hosts. In the present taxonomic revision, Pontonia sensu lato is divided into six genera: Pontonia sensu stricto; Ascidonia gen. nov., Rostronia gen. nov., Dactylonia gen. nov., Odontonia gen. nov., and Bruceonia gen. nov. A total of 29 species is described and figured, four of which are new to science: Pontonia pilosa spec. nov., Dactylonia holthuisi spec. nov., Odontonia rufopunctata spec. nov., and O. seychellensis spec. nov. The division in six genera is based on a stepwise phylogenetic analysis using morphological characters, performed using PAUP and McClade software. The... |

A new species of scyllarid lobster, Ibacus chacei, from eastern Australia is described and illustrated. The new species can be distinguished from all other known Ibacus species by the shape of the third maxilliped. Ibacus brevipes Bate, 1888 is recorded from Australia for the first time. Seven out of the eight known species of Ibacus are now recorded from Australia. Colour descriptions, and updated distributions for all Australian Ibacus species are included, plus further comments on the type locality of Ibacus peronii Leach, 1815. Colour illustrations and a key to the eight known species of Ibacus are also provided. |

Four species of Eiconaxius are known to possess a denticulate median rostral carina: E. antillensis Bouvier, 1905, E. asper Rathbun, 1906, E. cristagalli Faxon, 1893, and E. indicus (De Man, 1907). They are reviewed and two similar new species are described: E. dongshaensis sp. nov., and E. gololobovi sp. nov. A key to distinguish them is presented. |

The genus Hippolyte Leach in the East Atlantic and the Mediterranean is revised and a list of the world species is given. Eleven species occur in the area studied: H. coerulescens (Fabricius), H. garciarasoi spec. nov., H. inermis Leach, H. lagarderei d'Udekem d'Acoz, H. leptocerus (Heller), H. leptometrae Ledoyer, H. niezabitowskii spec. nov., H. palliola Kensley, H. prideauxiana Leach, H. sapphica d'Udekem d'Acoz, H. varians Leach. An elaborate key, complete descriptions and illustrations of all species are provided, while their ecology is discussed in detail. A morphological account is also given for the species occuring in the Suez Canal: H. proteus (Paulson) and H. ventricosa H. Milne Edwards. It is shown that H. prideauxiana (previously H. huntii)... |

The present work investigated the occupation and the correlation of the shrimp abundance in relation to environmental variables in different habitats (mangroves, salt marshes and rocky outcrops) in an Amazon estuary. The collections were made in August and November 2009, at low syzygy tide on Areuá Beach, situated in the Extractive Reserve of Mãe Grande de Curuçá, Pará, Brazil totaling 20 pools. In each environment, we recorded the physical-chemical factors (pH, salinity, and temperature) and measured the area (m2) and volume (m3) of every pool through bathymetry. The average pH, salinity, temperature, area and volume of tide pools were 8.75 (± 0.8 standard deviation), 35.45 (± 3), 29.49 °C (± 2.32), 27.41 m2 (± 41.18), and 5.19 m3(± 8.01), respectively.... |
